C.1780. A small tortoiseshell case from Georgian period with a finely painted sepia miniature. The miniature painting depicts two female figures and a child with a bird. The bird is attached to a ribbon, flying away from a cage. The painting is deliberately done with micro details. A rope-design of gold inlay decorates the edge of the box; the piqué work is beautifully completed. The inside is lined with velvet in a deep rose colored hue. The photos accurately show some minor flaws on the edge of the box. Although the closure button doesn’t snap firmly, the lid does stay closed when it is shut. Originally it was a toothpick case, and a few rings can fit in the case as shown in the last photo. This listing is for the case only. Overall in very good condition.
